ABOUT MHEP
At MHEP, we believe knowledge is power and education is a basic human right. MHEP aims to support disadvantaged youth from the Thai-Burma Border who are unable to attain further education.
The goal for MHEP students is that they will return to their communities and contribute to efforts of development and positive change for Burma. In order to accomplish this goal, MHEP prepares students to take the United States based General Educational Development (GED) high school equivalency test. This certificate is a necessary pre-requisite for universities in Thailand and abroad. Many students lack accepted evidence of their academic ability when they arrive at MHEP. With the GED certificate students have tangible proof of their education level that is recognized nationally and internationally. In addition, the comprehensive GED curriculum provides students with the relevant skills – including critical thinking, analysis, inference and the ability to express their ideas: all necessary to succeed during university and in the working world.
The MHEP program also provides a nurturing environment for students to develop into strong individuals who take pride in their growth, their communities, and their country. MHEP students have disparate backgrounds but face similar challenges: interrupted education due to school closures and lack of financial resources; lack of Thai/ Myanmar recognized education, internal displacement; post-traumatic stress; loss of family members to violence; forced relocation to refugee camps due to civil war.
MHEP GOALS
MHEP understands that in order to fill the widening educational gap in Burma, the new generation must receive high quality recognized education and support from outside of Burma. MHEP enables young Burmese students to access university education and to be competitive in the modern world.
